These birds are found in the far eastern areas of South Africa. Their habitat is woodland and open forest where thick bush tangles with tall grass. They are inconspicuous and easily overlooked, seldom venturing from thick cover and so are not very well known birds. They forage singly or in pairs, their food is grass seed.
